Consumers
Consumers of AI Products in India would have a clear, transparent and a no-jargon understanding of how their rights and information is protected.
Policy Makers
Policy makers in India (and around the world) would have a better grasp of the rights that citizens want to be protected and organisations are protecting themselves.

The (A)I Promise is an initiative of the Policy Working Group at People+ai. We hope to create a space for debate and discussion on policies, guidelines and regulations around AI in India. Supporting responsible innovation and experimentation in ways useful to India and Indians.
The group defines policy to be broader than just laws and regulations and focuses on the role the industry can play in creating better user outcomes. With a recognition that the government has a significant role to play in shaping the market and driving the inclusion agenda.
The group is focussing on three questions:
How can AI developers and entrepreneurs better respond to user needs and policymaker’s concerns?
How can the government support a vibrant AI ecosystem in India?
How do existing sectoral laws in health, agriculture, finance etc. intersect with AI use and deployment?
The (A)I Promise is a workstream that emerged from Question 1. That explores how developers can better respond to user needs. It will be a priority for the group in the near term. If the idea of developing a self governance code for AI excites you, write to us at
